Description
Split Vent Trap with 3 Cartridges, Discontinued
- High capacity
- Easy to change
The split vent trap attaches to the GC’s split vent to absorb organics released during sample injection. The trap contains 1200 mg of activated charcoal from coconut shells, which is a very effective scrubber of organics. It will absorb hydrocarbons other than methane at room temperature. Since there is no good indicator of when the absorption capacity has been reached, monthly or bi-monthly replacement of the charcoal tubes is recommended, depending on the frequency of GC use. The split vent trap consists of glass absorbent tubes, 1/8″ end fittings and a clear plastic protective sleeve. The trap is approximately 6 3/8″ long including fittings. |
Installation: The split vent trap is supplied assembled, with 1/8″ fittings at each end. Remove the plugs at both ends by unscrewing the nuts. Either end of the trap can be directly attached to the outlet tubing from your GC?s split vent, if it is 1/8″ in diameter. For other size outlet tubing, use an appropriate reducing union (not included), or change the outlet tubing to 1/8″ diameter. Use a wrench to tighten the fitting onto the split vent outlet tubing 3/4 turn past finger-tight. The exit end of the trap requires no tubing. The split vent trap is generally installed in a vertical position. |
Cartridge Replacement: Replacement cartridges are supplied with plastic end caps to prevent air contaminants from depleting the charcoal. The split vent trap does not need to be removed from the GC to replace the cartridge. Simply unscrew the outer plastic tub from the large fitting on the inlet end, then remove the cartridge. Leave the rubber O-rings in place inside each large fitting. Remove the plastic end caps off the new cartridge, slide it into the outer plastic tube, then screw this back onto the first large fitting. Tighten only finger-tight, which will be about 1/4 to 1/2 turn past the first point of resistance. Do not over tighten. |
